Robson Construction served as the contractor for Phase I of the Cayman Islands Government’s Central Business District Enhancement Project, focused on the transformation of Cardinal Avenue and adjoining areas of central George Town.

The project involved the removal of existing roadway surfaces and the redevelopment of the streetscape using a combination of concrete pavers and decorative asphalt street finishes, together with major improvements to stormwater management, utilities, landscaping and public-space infrastructure.

Robson’s scope included site excavation and grading, aggregate preparation, utility and telecommunications trenching, underground conduits, landscaping sleeves, concrete foundations for street lighting, landscaping pits, bollard foundations, curbing, sidewalk works, paving installation and associated civil works.

​

The works were delivered in coordinated sections across Cardinal Avenue, the Scotia Bank area and Seafarers Way, with activities including final grading, concrete works, street-light bases, deep wells, utility trenching, landscaping preparation, paver installation and streetscape improvements.

A key challenge was carrying out major civil and public-realm construction in the heart of an active Central Business District. Robson Construction coordinated closely with the Cayman Islands Government, National Roads Authority, Water Authority, CUC, telecommunications providers and other stakeholders while maintaining safe pedestrian and vehicle access around the works.

The completed project included coordinated infrastructure for street lighting, water services, telecommunications, site power, landscaping and irrigation, bollards, tree grates, paving and tiling works, demonstrating Robson Construction’s ability to manage complex multidisciplinary public-sector construction.

The project transformed Cardinal Avenue into a more modern, pedestrian-friendly public space while upgrading much of the supporting infrastructure beneath and around the roadway. It highlights Robson Construction’s experience delivering large-scale public-sector civil works, urban infrastructure, concrete and hardscape construction in the Cayman Islands.
