Cayman Islands House of Parliament – Remediation & Exterior Restoration Works
Robson Construction carried out a comprehensive programme of remediation and exterior restoration works at the Cayman Islands House of Parliament, addressing drainage, concrete deterioration, weatherproofing and building-envelope issues on one of the Cayman Islands’ most significant public buildings.
The project included upgrades to the roof drainage system, with new scupper drains, custom aluminium hoppers and associated downpipes installed to improve the controlled discharge of rainwater from the building. Existing drainage components were removed, replaced and pressure tested to confirm watertightness and improve long-term performance.
Robson also completed reinforced-concrete remedial works, including repairs to deteriorated downpipe encasements, concrete spalling and both structural and non-structural cracks. These works were carried out as part of a broader effort to restore the integrity of the exterior walls and protect the building from further deterioration.
A major part of the project involved improving resistance to water and chloride ingress. Exterior surfaces were prepared and refinished with protective coating systems, while selected parapet-wall areas received corrosion-inhibiting and protective treatments designed to safeguard the embedded reinforcement and extend the life of the concrete.
The works also included renewal of window seals and associated weatherproofing, helping address potential points of water penetration and improve the overall building envelope.
Working on an active and nationally important government building required careful planning, protection of existing finishes and close coordination with the Public Works Department and Parliament representatives throughout the works.
The project demonstrates Robson Construction’s experience in public-sector building remediation, concrete repair, waterproofing, roof drainage, exterior restoration and protective coating systems, delivering durable improvements to an important Cayman Islands landmark.
